My happiest memories from school are those of the school library. Not because of what you are thinking (You Perverts!!), but because I was genuinely interested in books back then. When I moved to college, I gradually lost my way to other worldly pleasures and somewhere down the line reading took a backseat. Only recently have I started to reKindle my past relationship with reading.
To cut the story short, here’s my very biased list of reasons as to why you should own a Kindle Paperwhite.
- Are you one of those people with an OCD to own the best gizmos in the market?
- The best music player : iPod
- The best console : Play Station
- The best eBook reader : ???
Look no further. Kindle is the best e-book reader that is available in the market. There’s no two ways about that. Google upholds it. And so does Bing (for the 10 odd people who vouch for Bing as a search engine)
- 8 weeks battery life!!! This fact alone should be able to win over any tech geek out there. In a constantly changing electronic products market, where some of the products don’t even last 8 weeks on the shelf before they are replaced by a better, faster, slimmer competitive product, owning a gizmo which boasts of a “Charge Monthly, Not Daily” tagline is like owning The Elixir of (battery) Life of modern times.
- Value for money: If you can waste $ 800+ on the latest iPhone which you eventually use for playing Class 5 IQ games like Temple Run, surely you can shell out $120 for a device that will actually enrich you intellectually and do you some good.
- Smartphone Addiction? Do you have that constant urge to arrange 3 red Jelly beans in a row or, check your FB news feed for the 100th time? Owning Kindle is the perfect way of going cold turkey. It might seem a scary proposition to start with, but every time you have the craving to check your smartphone, pick up the kindle instead and read something on it (An experimental browser just in case you have suicidal thoughts will let some pressure off. But that’s it ). Consider it as your personal rehab from where you will definitely emerge as a better person.
- Fan of 50 shades? The discreet nature of Kindle lets you delve into your fixation with literary works of such genre anyplace anytime, be it a corporate meeting or a public transport. If some fool has the audacity to interrupt your happy moments by asking what you are reading, throw away some heavyweight names like Machiavelli and Nietzsche and the conversation will end there.
- You have a friend in USA? For all those people out there with friends in the USA, it is high time that you start pulling on all your emotional strings so that you might be gifted a Kindle when your friends make a visit back home. Read How to win friends & Influence people by Dale Carnegie if you want some pointers on how to do that. Kindle is perfect for a gift. Not so costly as to burn a hole in your friends pocket, so no guilty conscience there!
- You foresee being shipwrecked on an island in the near future? Just in case you happen to be shipwrecked on an island. Keep some survival books preloaded on your Kindle and you are good to go for 8 weeks. If you are not rescued by the time your kindle battery dies out, atleast you will die a learned person.
- Looking for an intelligent date? Tired of dating bimbos and you want someone with whom you can actually talk something metaphysical. You know there is a secret society, Priory of Athena which comprises of intellectual girls (It is so secretive that even Google doesn’t know about it). They have strict guidelines to date only guys who own Kindle (Can’t reveal my sources). The members of this society are spread everywhere. For all you know, the cute girl who lives two stops from you on the metro is a member and you have tried everything till now to get her attention but to no avail. Well, you haven’t tried Kindle yet!
- Fed up of friends who keep borrowing your books and end up never returning them? Keep all your books on Kindle and carry them everywhere with you away from the prying hands of your gluttonous & bibliomaniac friends.
If you have survived reading so far and still failed to reach a decision. I have prepared a Decision Matrix that might help you.
PS: I am not being paid by Amazon anything, but I won’t mind if Bezos give me a 1 % profit cut in each kindle sold henceforward.
Another classy yet fresh piece of writing… Kudos to you..
U have seriously AMAZONed me !!
Planning to buy it.. Need to discuss it with you though.. 😛
If the Decision Matrix couldn’t help you, I can’t help either. That matrix was prepared by McKinsey…
“Class 5 IQ games like Temple Run” LOL!! It is sly on majority of smartphone owners out there pretending to be smart. 😛
And, Convo box is surely entertaining. Ye dil maange more!!
Kab tak maangte rahoge, Take what you want 😛
good one..thankfully i made dis smart decision long back during the MTT training 😀
You should have influenced others back then itself 😛
your writing skills amaze me! you should consider making it your profession!
coming to the subject matter, although reason #9 has pushed me on the verge of buying a kindle several times, the feel of physical books has always stopped me!
If only writing paid as much as our current jobs 😀
